Question

We're having a hard time keeping any sandal-type shoes on Jess's feet. Especially the ones that came with Jess's meet outfit, the Tropical Breezes outfit, the Butterfly Brocade outfit, and even Jess's PJ's. DD (7 yo) takes Jess everywhere with us, and I'm always checking to make sure she hasn't lost them. We did lose one of her sandals as soon as we got home from AGPC but we found it in the garage (it fell off between the van and the house).

I'm seriously considering using sticky velcro on the bottom of Jess's feet and inside her shoes to help keep them on. Has anyone ever done this? Do you recommend it? We didn't buy Jess as an investment so I'm not too worried about her resale value. DD is always losing things and doesn't seem to notice until way after the fact and it's not always possible to backtrack to find them. She already lost Jess's journal a few days ago in the van and we think it fell out because we can't find it anywhere.

Anyway, back to my question--should we velcro or not? Or do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks for your help!

The velcro is a decent idea if you are not worried about the resale value. However, it doesnt stick really well to vinyl and could just pull off and leave a sticky mess after a while.

Maybe a small hair elastic around the shoe and the foot would work. I dont know how labor intensive that would be for everyday play, but maybe you could just do it when doll and daughter venture out?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's a great idea--in fact Jess did come with clear elastic around her shoes. I think I still have the bands in the box.

    Thanks!

I second (or third) that idea! I try to keep a supply of those clear elastic bands (silicon bands) on hand, one reason being so that any time that I want to fasten the shoes on better, I can wrap some of them around the shoes.

I agree with the elastics. I always use them on sandals, and sometimes even on slippers. Here is a picture:

Except of course, I normally use clear elastics!

    Hope this helps!

    Edited for spelling!

What if you just told your daughter not to put the shoes that fall off easily on her doll when you are away from the house? Better to have the doll go bare foot and know the shoes are at home then to have the doll end up bare foot and know the shoes will never be found again because they fell off in a store or in a parking lot etc.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's what did today. The Butterfly Brocade sandals fell off before we even left the house so Jess went barefoot (it was even DD's idea). Thanks!

Felicity and Elizabeth went out to dinner with us tonight. Both were barefoot for fear of losing the shoes. It's a wonder thet even let us in the restaurant much less served us. No shoes - No service .

For extra security, in addition to putting an elastic around the back of the heel, you can also put one that goes around the top of the foot (and over the arch underneath), and then twist it and stretch it around the ankle (if it's a long enough elastic).
